I truly don't have a "green thumb". I could say I have a "black thumb", and that would be true in more ways than one :). In response to lesson 9, question 2, I looked up pruning on the internet and found this article. http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/extension/pruning/pruning.html There's probably far more information there than anyone needs to know about pruning :), however read from the point of view of a spiritual analogy, I found it intriguing. Much of the language of pruning lends itself to insightful observations. It's just one more example of how the Father uses nature to explain who He is, and how He works with us.
Enjoy!
p.s. any insights you discover from reading this article would be welcome :)

Doris very graciously gave me permission to post her thoughts on pruning on the blog. I will include a thought from her initial email to me as well as something she wrote some time ago on the subject.
Be blessed by these words,
Cathy
I remember my mother saying always cut a yellowing leaf off because it is not going to get green again and it is sapping strength from the plant that the rest of the plant could benefit from. You can go with that application to our Christian lives! Stop or get rid of anything that is keeping us from growing in our walk with the Lord!
GOD’S CARE
by Doris Holmberg
Gardening involves constant care. We look at a tree or plant and realize that those dead branches or dead twigs need to be trimmed. As we begin the pruning process, more hidden or unobserved dead wood becomes obvious and as they are removed, the more beautiful and healthier the tree becomes. The healthier parts of the plant or tree, therefore, can now absorb nutrients, and luscious new growth can take place. This applies to our spiritual lives. When we become a child of God, he begins to reveal to us various aspects of our lifestyle and demeanor that needs ‘pruning’: our choices, attitudes and our way of thinking as well as how we express ourselves. That which is dishonorable must be pruned from our lives in order that the beauty of Jesus might replace any sinful desires and actions.
“Those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!”
11 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
